Hey, Amy. What are you up to today?
Oh, Hey, Keith. Nothing much, just doing some research for a project I'm working on.
I see. What is the project on?
We have to write about something unique, one-of-a-kind, but we have some liberties with what it can be.
So what have you chosen for your paper?
Well, that's what I'm having trouble with. I have a hard time getting started with projects, you know
Yeah, ditto. Hey, why don't you write about the platypus?
The playtus? Why would I want to do my project on the playtus?
Well, the playtus is the epitome of something one-of-a-kind. Did you know the platypus is a mammal, but it lays eggs?
Really? That is odd. But I'll need more than that for my project. What else?
Platypus are also very strange-looking. When it was first discovered, scientists thought it was a fake.
Why would they think that? they thought someone just made it up as a hoax?
The platypus has a bill, webbed feet, lays eggs and hunts with electric sensors. What would you think?
I guess that would strike me as pretty unusual. Do they make good pets?
Oh, no, no. Platypus are very shy. Plus, they have barbs on their legs that poison their prey.
Goodness, you were right. The platypus is unique. This will be perfect for my project!
Yeah, check it out outline to learn more. Aren't you going to Austrailia for vacation soon?
Yeah, I am, but what does that have to do with my project?
Well, platypus are native only to Austrailia, so you can go to a zoo or wildlife park and see one.
That sounds like a great idea! Thanks so much for your help, Keith!
